Newaukum Valley Farm is located just off the Willapa Hills Trail, right after the 6.0 mile marker. In this Trail Spotlight, you’ll get an inside peek of what life is like on the farm, and on the trail.

Inspired by the desire for self-sufficiency, independence, and the simple sense of accomplishment from planting seeds and watching them grow, Josh and Melissa began farming on the banks of the Newaukum River in 2003. Originally focusing on cut flowers, fate tipped its hand when a friend of Melissa’s connected them to an executive chef at Etta’s Seafood in Seattle who was seeking locally grown produce. The rest, as they say, is history. Now in their 15th season, Josh and Melissa supply 25 restaurants and 3 grocery stores in the Olympia and Seattle areas with fresh produce picked just hours before delivery, from their farm that is now located next to the Chehalis River. They also sell direct, from their on-site farm stand, open every Wednesday from 1-7, from June to October.

Open for the special occasion of Ride the Willapa, visitors are welcome to stop by to check out their farm stand on Saturday from 10-3pm.

Saturday evening, Josh and Melissa invite those interested in a one-day ride for one of their ‘Chefs in Our Field‘ 5-course dinners – an immersive cullinary experience one can only see to believe. Situated on the edge of one of the property’s koi ponds, the dinner table is set for you and 40 or so of your newest friends. With ingredients all from less than a 40 mile radius of Newaukum Valley Farm, the local producers will be in attendance to represent the fruits of their labor. Chef Jay Ryan will be leading this journey of local flavors. You can pick up tickets at or at Brown Paper Tickets.

NVF Chefs in Our Field

Sunday, as part of the Tour de Farms, Chef Jay Ryan back will be back at it again, serving lunch from 11-3.  Riders returning from their stays in Pe Ell and/or the Rainbow Falls Campout are welcome to have a meal in the shade, soaking up a little bit more of the idyllic scenery of the heritage farm before completing the journey back to Chehalis. There will also be opportunities to tour their farm grounds, at 11 am and 1 pm on Sunday.
